Running

Trails

Any of the lakes in Victoria have great trails around them, and one can always do Dallas Road, or Beacon Hill Park, but if you're staying at Cottage Pirouette B and B, we suggest a choice of safe, scenic routes near your accommodation. There's the trail out over Macaulay Point, there are trails through Saxe Point Park, and there is the West Bay Walkway (though often a runway) that heads into town. Besides the parks, we have a few of our favourite routes throughout the quiet neighbourhood streets. There's also the treadmills at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre, just a few minutes away.

Marathons

With the mildest average temperature in Canada, Victoria hosts a LOT of running events. The two biggies are:

Times Colonist 10 km
This happens in April every year, and is one of the largest 10K races in North America. Come and enjoy a run in one of the prettiest seasons of the year.

Royal Victoria Marathon
In October every year, near Canadian Thanksgiving Day, the Royal Victoria Marathon is recognized as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, but a lot of first-time marathoners try it too. With a gorgeous scenic course, Runner's World Magazine says "One of the Top 10 destination marathons in North America". Cottage Pirouette is happy to host marathon participants, and provide you with your favourite energy foods, AND, we don't mind if you come back later in the day to shower and fuel up. Better still, check out our Activities Page, and stay another night.

Many charities host various runs, triathlons, half-marathons, and 5 or 10K runs. It's easy to get involved...just talk to us.
